The Royal Air Force Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was instituted by King George V in 1919. The medal was awarded to non-commissioned officers and airmen of the Royal Air Force. The award criteria was later relaxed to allow the medal to be awarded to officers who had served a minimum period in the ranks before being commissioned. The medal was awarded for eighteen years of unblemished service. On the 1 December 1977 this was reduced to fifteen years of unblemished service.
This hard enamel version of the Royal Air Force Long Service and Good Conduct Medal comes in uniform size and can be worn in place of the traditional ribbon where permitted.
